Do you have a savings account for your pet?

health savings account
~?chihuahua lover?~ asked:

This post is in response to so many of the questions that come to this board. The number of times people state that they can’t afford medical care for their pets is just heartbreaking to me.

I do not understand why people choose to have pets and then not take some care to provide for their medical needs. A savings account should always be kept for them in case of something serious or chronic shows up.

If we choose to take the responsibility for another life should we not also make the financial means necessary to make sure that they stay in good health?

Yes… Seriously, I think people should have to apply for licenses to get pets. Way too many people get them who just can’t look after them properly.

I don’t have a savings account for my animals BUT I have had the same vet for years and he lets me make payments if necessary. I know not everybody has this option so I defiantly think it is a good idea. Either that or an emergency only credit card

Yes I do like when they get sick or need something I just take out their money.
I have put aside money for them since I got my pets so when they need something its there.

I agree. I absolutely love animals and would never hurt one, in fact, all of my dogs are treated with royalty around my house. My mom honestly treats our dogs like her own child, which technically they kinda are. But it sometimes is hard to show the affection to your pets when you don’t have the time or money, that is why i, too, think people should be like monitored in a way that they are doing there job as a pet owner. For example, there should be a CPS for pet owners.

On principle I agree with you 100%. I also know that there are people out there who are poor (usually the elderly) that their greatest comfort is their pet and I wouldn’t want to deny them that. There are other people though who just aren’t willing to spend money on their pets and it has nothing to do with them not actually having it. Ex: I was in a training class with 16 co-workers one time and one of the other ladies was telling me about the $3k she had spent on her dog because it was sick and she didn’t know if she could come up with any more money though she wanted too. The other 14 people in the class told her she had already spent way too much already, and in a general consensus they agreed that the most you should ever spend on a pet is $500, (one lady said $100.)

My pets inherit every asset I have, along with my business…they are #1 in my will….they also have a savings account that I put in 10% of every home transaction I sell….10% of my profit goes into an account for my dogs and I sell at least 3 homes a month.

I’ve got the carecredit credit card just as a back up in case, so far haven’t had to use it and hopefully never will, but I would rather be safe than have a puppy/dog in discomfort.
