Do you have a savings account for your pet?

health savings account
~?chihuahua lover?~ asked:

This post is in response to so many of the questions that come to this board. The number of times people state that they can’t afford medical care for their pets is just heartbreaking to me.

I do not understand why people choose to have pets and then not take some care to provide for their medical needs. A savings account should always be kept for them in case of something serious or chronic shows up.

If we choose to take the responsibility for another life should we not also make the financial means necessary to make sure that they stay in good health?

I don’t have a savings account, but I do have a CareCredit credit card for any pet emergencies that may arise. I couldn’t agree more with you.

i actually had a client that came in once on an emergency shift and when her dog was a puppy she started a savings account and put a certain amount in it every paycheck. i thought it was an awesome idea. carecredit is another great option.

  • Gabrio:

its a good idea, their vaccines are expensive.

  • Jess:

yep i do have a savings put away for my dog, even though I always have enough money for his care. Its just incase something majorly expensive comes up,I even have pet medical insurance on him.

My dog is like my child and he is worth every penny in the world. I don’t understand it either how people have pets and they can’t even afford a simple vet check up or anything, major surgery is one thing, but they have a pay plan for such things. Nothing is more important than the health of my furry babies!

No not a savings account but I have Dog insurance which covers most things. The things is does not cover will always come out of my pocket.

LOL… I can see what you are saying.. True.. A lot of people don’t have the income to pay for a major surgery for a pet..
But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have pets or mean they don’t love their pets, And most of the time, The pets are lucky to have a loving home..

Heck.. Most people don’t have a savings account or insurance for their kids..

  • Tall Girl:

No, I’ve got more than enough money to take care of my pets.

  • Dazzlingstarz:

Not really no. I do have emergency situration money put back as well as pet insurance(yes i get laughed at sometimes cuz of that)

and i agree with you 100%.

  • Courtney:

No, we don’t have a savings account for our dogs.

We do however have a CareCredit Card for emergecies, or when money is tight. It’s a credit card for some veterinary offices, not all vets take them, but the bigger branches do.

I agree, that people who own a dog(s) should have something like CareCredit, or a savings account. Instead, they come on Y!A and try to find some home-made recipe to fix Parvo or a broken hip. =[
