Do savings in your bank account count towards federal yearly income?
ltvolt asked:
so in order to get free health care coverage under Obamacare you need to make below a certain threshold per year. Suppose I make no money but I have some savings in the back to live from. Does this savings count for yearly income? Does it all get taxed? Would you be considered in poverty?

Must Health Savings Account contributions be listed on my W-2 for tax year 2009?
Sharon P asked:
I received my W-2 from my employer. It does not show the amount of money I contributed to my Health Savings Account nor the amount the company contributed. (They contribute money each quarter to employees. We do not have a cafeteria plan) According the the info from the bank where I have my HSA the contributed amount should be on my W-2. If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Stop spamming my question. I am reporting you to yahoo.
We do not have a cafeteria plan.

On my taxes do I include the contributions from myself AND my employer? Or must I somehow submit those seperatly?

Why are my HSA Contributions being taxed?
K S asked:
I am filling out my information in Turbo Tax and when I add how much I am contributing to my Health Savings Account, it reduces my tax refund. Does this mean I am being taxed on this money? I thought HSA contributions were supposed to be tax protected? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you all for your quick responses – the form did adjust later when I completed the 8889. TurboTax is a little misleading and suggests I am being taxed on this when is reduces my refund after filling in 12(c).

Will I get a refund this year?
yamahaguitargirl asked:
If I completed my W-4 as single, 2 allowances (but I have no children) will I get a refund this year?
It seems that my employer might have withheld too little federal tax. I make $1240 (gross) bi-weekly, and I am a single person who has no children but I claim 1 for myself and 1 for being single just as it instructs on my W-4 and just as I have ALWAYS done for the past 15 years of working. This year, it’s different. In 2007, I made gross wages of $29,900 and they took federal tax of $3636.14, then in 2008 I made gross wages of $32,312.30 and they took federal tax of $3,808.76, now for 2009 I made gross wages of $31,357.48 and they only took $2,284.00 in federal taxes ??? This will result in me owing the IRS! . Why is this year different from last year? I made less this year than last year and I got an almost $900 refund. The only other deductions I have are year end medical at $896.42 and year end health savings account contributions of which $300 was employer and $350 my own. There’s a significant difference it seems. What am I missing?? Why would my employer only take $2,284.00 year end for federal withholding when my salary hasn’t differed that much in the last 3 years?

can you deduct premium costs on your taxes from an employer HSA plan?
Q&A lady asked:
my husband has an Health savings plan at work for medical insurance. The family deductible is $3000, which the company actually reimburses us for through the HSA account. Beyond that my husband has about $2400/year that he has deducted from his paychecks to cover the premiums. Is this $2400 something we can write off as an out of pocket expense??
