How come so many people place looks before virtue, kindness, intelligence, etc?
Hello. My name is Juan Lopez, and recently I’ve been very deep in thought. I am 17 years old, and I just can’t seem to find a girl. I’ll admit I’m not very handsome. But I gave other good qualities. I have straight A’s, really high A’s in all AP classes plus tons of extracurricular activities. And I still have time for friends and family, and I hope some dates. Also, I’m extremely nice. I’ll gel ANYONE out and love to donate money to charity, volunteer, and work with children and the elderly. I come from a. Wealthy family, plus have my own ambitions and savings accounts with almost $10,000 saved up, plus a large inheritance. I am athletic and care for my health. And finally, I don’t really show off. I don’t like to. I’m generally quiet and kind of shy, but I can be funny and talkative when I want to. Could it be that? Or could it be my appearance?
Or I might be too-romantic. I love Romeo and Juliet kind of Romance, serenading, singing, roses, chocolates, romantic dinners, flowers, and engagement rings with diamonds the size of your fist. I love talking, sharing emotions, and just spending time with someone. I’m not in it for sex, I’ll wait whatever she wants before that. I’ll protect her, care for her, love her, and tell her how much I love her. I don’t see what I’m doing wrong, any advice?

Have you ever lived on really low money? how did you do it?
If so, please share your story to help keep me motivated.
I’m a college student living with 2 roommates, no family because I cut them off due to negative relations (let’s not get into it).
Right now I have $0.40 in my checking account, $6.72 in my savings account, $60 cash.
My next paycheck (I’m working 31 hours at my university) will bring enough money to cover my rent + utilities. I’m on food stamps (thank goodness). I’m expecting a student loan check to arrive in four weeks that will cover the cost of utilities & rent & cell for the rest of summer because my job might end at the end of June. I lost a business internship that paid well, too. I have no health insurance because I’m 21 so I have medical things I had to pay for, including $1777 for oral surgery, dental and nearly $100 on three months of birth control.
I have cut costs as much as I could. Aside from taking my boyfriend out to a birthday dinner this month, I plan to stay at home as much as possible. My roommates and I have already tried cutting costs by turning the central air off & buying bedroom fans (it’s still hot I couldn’t sleep last night). I feel scared at times. Do you think I’ll be okay or end up on the streets? I’ve applied to so many jobs, was told I have an impressive resume but no one is hiring. I live in Michigan.

Why is a student loan in college considered an “investment.” Have I been borrowing smartly?
Hi, I’m a junior and my total debt for undergraduate may be 23k
I have 2 scholarships & $2,000 in AmeriCorps scholarship I’m saving to pay toward loans. I had two other state scholarships but Michigan can’t afford to pay it.
I’ve always held 2-3 jobs (low paying) during the school year/summer while I go to school full-time but it’s not enough to pay for rest of tuition, living expenses, gas to go to my jobs/school (bus is not an option when my life is so hectic & busy), books, clothing, kitchen appliances, utilities, rent, shoes, etc. I’ve worked these jobs since freshman year. I lost Medicaid because I’m 21.
I have no connections to family (prior abuse, wanted me to drop out of college), so I’m on my own living with 2 roommates in a house. I don’t qualify for workstudy anymore because my 4 month internship paid so well for those four months that now my income is “too high” to even get my normal pell grant amount. I feel screwed over. I needed the money to pay for living expenses. I budget and cut back (hunt for bargains, no Starbucks, etc)
I am considering borrowing $500 Federal Perkins Loan to save in a savings account to help pay for health expenses (birth control – menstrual/maintain my weight/acne), doctor’s appointments, pap smear, dental/vision, etc. I am majoring in Communications, minoring in Marketing & getting a PR Certificate. I want to go for my MBA in Marketing later on. Have I been borrowing usefully?

How can I save my brain from rotting?
It’s summer vacation and so far I’ve spent the majority of it watching tv and being glued to my computer screen (especially since starting a new myspace account). I fear for the health of my brain! I don’t have a car, I live in a small town on the outside of town, and most of my friends are in other places. I’d like to hear some of your suggestions for what I might fill my days with instead so as to not get fat and stupid between now and August.

Should the US, UK and Canada turn over their pension schemes to aid4families?
Finance guru Earl Matthews (founder of aid4families.com) has set his sights on revolutionizing the pension plans of several countries. Like many of his brethren, David Filo and Jerry Yang (founders of Yahoo), Larry Page and Sergey Brin ( founders of google), and Chris Dewolf & Tom Anderson ( founders of Myspace), a generation that grew up under the likes of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, seem determined to change every aspect of society. It seems odd that while we are talking about the government being involved in universal health care and at the same time private savings accounts and privatizing pensions. The government may get your teeth fixed until you are 90 but the money for food to use those teeth on will be up to you to find. Do you support universal health care and do you support public pension schemes relying on “for profit” fund managers?
