why are people opposed to healthcare reform?

shag asked:

Ill put it this way we have a public school system available to all citizens, did that destroy america.

why are so many people so opposed to the idea of everyone having government funded health care i personally support a health care system following Canada’s lead?

A Canadian health care system would eliminate much the bureaucratic waste that plagues the American system. According to the General Accounting Office of the US congress, the savings from consolidating the bureaucracy of the U.S. health care system into one such as the Canadian system would be upwards of $100 billion annually. Without increasing the total amount of money spent in the US on health care, this money could be redirected to pay for the costs of including everyone, rich or poor, in a nationalized insurance program that could even cover co-payments and deductables. The Canadian system simply offers more for your money: more and better care than US HMOs, at a lower cost. Honestly why dont people get that a government provided healthcare is a good idea?

Health savings accounts? Could you afford it?

Noah H asked:

It costs about $45,000 for a hip replacement. A few hundred thousand for a new heart like Cheney’s. That’s a whale of a lot od savings even if it is ‘tax free’. Still, saving up isn’t the worst idea anyone ever had….but as a national solution to a massive problem I dunno’….it sounds a bit pie in the sky. Several of the GOP candidates suggested this last night. On the other hand I toss in a few hundred every month into Medicare and so far, so good. Maybe instead of two wars tossing a fraction of that cash into some kind of ‘public option’ would be a better deal. Ron Paul is in favor of ending these wars, though I’m not sure he’s a fan of Medicare. What would work best for you…saving up or an affordable Health Insurance Plan?

Government Is Wasting $ 57.600 A Year For Every Single Hospice Patient / Harms Everybody In The USA?

Kay asked:

My grandmother is in a nursing home. She has to pay $ 6.200 every month. They even put every diaper extra on the bill, even she already pays so much. That nursing come gets rich in that they employ cheap immigrants / aliens without health care insurance. They rip of all old people. Nursing homes have extremely exaggerated prices in the USA. The government should set a limit for all nursing homes.

My granny is very sick. She feels bad when she smells anything like deodorant, soap etc. She needs oxygen and really needs a single bad room. She also is snoring every night. She could not sleep with another patient in one room. Her account is shrinking very fast. If all her money is used and she has nothing, all her life time savings and assets wasted for a nursing home, who earns too much, she will get Medicaid. Medicaid will pay $ 2.000 less.
My granny is in a single bed room because she is a private paying patient. With Medicaid she will lose the right too sleep alone. That is horrible. I can not understand how they put more than 1 person in a room don’t matter what they pay. That’s awful. Almost every old person snores. It’s discussing to share a toilet with very sick people.

The worst thing is, that Hospice gets $ 4.800 every month just for visiting her. Almost no service is not $ 4.800 worth. The government / Medicare pays just for my grandmother $ 57.600 per year. Imagine how much for every old person in the USA. That’s crazy. It is not necessary to pay them so much. The hospice is not necessary, because they don’t do anything useful, the nursing staff takes care of her. They just come to “steal” money legally. Unfortunately they get paid. I don’t understand. That unnecessary and crazy money wasting has to be stopped.
The government refuse to pay for the nursing home, but they pay for almost useless Hospice. The $ 4.800 + grandmothers income would have covered my grannies nursing home costs and she would not have to waist her assets and hardly earned life time savings. She said that she is so sad to loose everything.

The only one who has an advantage is the money making business “Hospice”. They rip of our government’s money. Every single penny of the government is money from hard working Americans => WE ALL!

How can we stop this extremely unnecessary money wasting problem?! This harms everybody in the USA old and young people!
Unfortunately I couldn’t correct some writing errors, that I saw later, sorry.

Can foreigners get free health care?

Angie asked:

I never thought about this before, but I just read online that some foreigners will come here to the US as sick as can be and go to the hospital and get free treatment from the hospital and then leave the country without paying the bill.Could this possibly be one of the reasons that we are running out of money for health care?If not what do you think are some reasons that Obama is trying to cut medicare and medicaid. How do they help prevent foreigners from getting free health care from our country when they aren’t paying taxes and or working under the table jobs. Also what happens if a person doesn’t ever pay their children’s medical bills, since they can’t put stuff on a minors credit, and even if they did it would more than likely have reached the SOL b4 they turned 18?One last question. If a person qualifies for medicare for them and kids do the medicare agencies look at their accounts to make sure they don’t have more than what they said they have. And what if they didn’t have much or make much to start with and over time they acquired say 10,000 in savings and checking from working low income job and they still work a low income job will they be disqualified?

how do i write a letter of limited power of attorney for some one who is in hospital,?

Garnie Hardy asked:

This person was in a an accident, injuries to his leg and has a broken back, I have used all the money I had to help him. He has money in his bank account, and I also need asset to his home to get documents and health insurance card that he left. The person is out of the country and needs help desperately. He needs to have back surgery, but Doctor’s won’t do it without being paid. I don’t have that kind of money to help him, so I need some type of Power of Attorney to asset his belongings to help him. So, I need asset to his home with locksmith, he lost keys in accident, asset to his savings and checking account at bank. And to help make decisions on any medical situations that may occur. So, how I go about writing a Power of Attorney letter?

How to financially support a inmate?

health savings account
Aunties_Gurl26 asked:

I have a savings account open for the inmate. She has a total of 1500 in that account. Out of that 1500 i have sent her 324.12 out of it. I just made a deposit yesterday. so she still has over 1500 with yesterdays deposit. She calls me when she needs money. I pretty much pay for everything she needs. Books, magazines, health products, her tv. writing supplies. food, medical. So she is doing just fine with me supporting her financially. So books cost a moth right around 50.00, magazines, 15.00, 20.00 for health products, Her T.V. 250.00, writing supplies 52.00 a week, food 30.00, medical depends on what she is seen for. It can go from 20.00 all the way up to 200- 300.
I just recently paid a medical bill for tooth root canal. so 717.00 is what she needed. Well, I had to get for the tv 3 different amount of money orders. medical insurance she’s getting 2 or 3 different money orders. So on a weekly basis, she gets the amount she wants.

How to keep license from being suspended for unpaid tickets and failure to appear?

health saving account
asked:

I got a ticket for running a red light in a vehicle that had bad brakes which failed on me causing me to run a red light, this vehicle was not mine and I immediately pulled into the next parking lot after it happened, about a minute later a cop who was somewhere around pulled in and wrote me a ticket. Anyway, I forgot to show up in court as I had so much going on, and I really did have a lot going on. This year has been a never ending cluster **** and things are still pretty bad. I totally forgot about this ticket and it says I need to pay $1000 in the next 15 days or my license will be suspended. the letter said I can request a hearing within 15 days if I show up in court with my license. I am hesitant to show up in court at the risk my license if revoked. I know I should have paid my ticket and taken care of this earlier, but it was not a high priority and I had no money to pay it if i wanted too. About a month before this ticket I had my business account compromised which resulted in me losing $40,000 dollars, which left me with about $900 in my personal account. I am now forced to live with family as my business filed bankruptcy and I have yet to find new work. I am also forced to take care of another sick sibling in conjunction with my father. I am on county health care for bipolar disorder which was not a problem being self employed, but the recurring depression makes it hard to find a stable job right now. The money I manage to make freelancing in marketing, which is my area of business, isn’t enough to pay the bills i do have. I have no vehicle, but I do use family members vehicles until I can save enough to get back on my feet. I can’t afford to pay a $1000 dollar fine, and the only way I am able to make money is by meeting with clients by borrowing a car, so I can’t afford not to have a license. When I have the money I would be willing to pay the fine, but that just can’t happen right now. Is there any way to prevent my license from being suspended. Is there a form I can file or some kind of injunction I can file? Things are just starting to get better for me, but to lose another $1000 dollars or my license would be a huge set back. Please offer any advice you can. If it matters I am in California. Please save your judgmental comments, you have no idea how difficult the past year has been. Anyway, my time on the library computer is just about up, so thanks in advance to those who offer helpful advice.

Expert’s description on health saving accounts (HSA)?

health saving account
KennyB asked:

I looked at this alternative to our current system and the universal health coverage as both clearly do not work. One provides poor quality and rationed healthcare (universal healthcare) while the other has unaffordable health insurance that may reject your situation (private health)

I was recently shown the HSA system. Anyone do any deep research on it? It seems reasonable to have tax free PERSONAL medical accounts that accumulate the money for that moment in time when you have a health concerns. If HSA was a majority in health coverage, it would lower medical payments as you don’t have the insurance companies trying to profit or deny you of a medical service. This also prevents the abuse of social healthcare that only results in a complete government financial disaster and long waits for medical services.

So now I have a few specific questions…
Some people may get into accidents and require to see a physician ever some interval of time. Lets assume the medical payment from the accident takes majority of the money in your HSA. Does this mean you are pretty much out of luck for any further medical services until you “replenish” your account?

Do you think this system would increase or decrease current insurance prices? Lower it to compete with the cost effective HSA? Allowing people to have both and have almost absolute security? Or would this yield into pricier insurance making it pretty much unaffordable to even for the entire middle class?

Republicans: Why can’t you pass a bill giving health care benefits to heros?

health saving account
Steve asked:

I mean seriously! The bill extends health benefits to heros who saved lives during 9/11! Republicans shot it down!

Reason number 1: Because it taxes US companies with OFF-SHORE accounts!
Reason number 2: Because it gives benefits to possible illegal-aliens

First of all, who gives a s#$% if HP gets their US Virgin islands account taxed? Then, if Jose saved you from a building but wasn’t a citizen, does that mean he gets nothing?!

You all make me sick at this point. Stop being as$holes and just disagreeing with democrats for the hell of it! ENOUGH!
