Health insurance problem?

health savings account
Joe asked:

So here’s the basic story: I’ve had health insurance for my whole life, except for these past several months. Unfortunately, for me, I have fell terribly ill in this time. I don’t know where to begin with health insurance, but even worse, I have no money either. I have $750 to my name in my savings account. In the fall, I’ll be a full time student and I’ll have health insurance because of that. But, in the meantime, I need to get some coverage right now for a couple of months. Does this type of thing exist? How much money would it probably cost me (roughly). Will they do a thorough check up on my health before they give the insurance? Please, anything you can tell me about the whole process and anything else would be appreciated. I desperately need insurance, and I need to see a doctor. I’ve become so disheartened and ashamed to be an American with the health care system we have (I know that’s neither here nor there, but I figured I’d get it off my chest). Oh yeah, I am a twenty-one year old male. Please, any help will be appreciated.

I’m being laid off and I have 1 mo. of health insurance left. I have an HSA. How do I use my $1,100?

chunksloth_2000 asked:

My health savings account has $1,100.00 in it, and as I read it, you need to use the money for health related causes. Now, I could buy $1,100 worth of vitamins at the drugstore and resell them, but that doesn’t seem practical. I’ve already been to my primary care physician, even had a blood test and a chest x-ray for a cough, but how to I get to that other $ without it going to waste?

Is an ER medical bill negotiable?

health savings account
Peter W asked:

I would appreciate some comments on the following situation: I live in Los Angeles and have a health savings account and medical insurance with United Healthcare. Recently, I cut my finger and went to the locat ER. I got five stitches and two weeks later, got them removed. I was stunned when I got a bill for $1,500. The ER is IN my network of providers. I got the negotiated rate which was approximately 80% of the full rate. My question is: can I negotiate the $1,500 with the hospital?
Thanks….

Doctors that provide phone/internet consultations?

health savings account
vonwao asked:

Does anyone know where I can find a doctor that provides phone/internet consultations? I’m tired of going to doctors who I have to wait 3 months for an appointment, and then they only see me for about 3 minutes anyway!

I have an Health Savings Account plan, so I don’t mind paying out of pocket from my HSA account.

Are Health Savings Accounts the Right Medicine for the ills of the Health Care Industry? Explain?

texas1234 asked:

Explain why Health Savings Accounts are better than traditional PPO. Why do employers prefer HSA over traditional PPO? Does HSA give patients more control over the care they receive, is their any tax incentives that comes with having HSAs?

Can anyone provide me with info about HSA’s (Health Savings Accounts) in layman’s terms?

Robbie V asked:

My employer just informed me that we can open a HSA on a pretax basis. It’s brand new to them and Human Resources isn’t knowledable on it yet. I understand that I have to have a High Deductable Health Insurance Plan (our company provides that option and labels it as being meant for people opening a HSA).

If i contribute to a HSA how does it benefit me if I can’t use the money toward my deductable? I mean, if I go in for a normal office visit, it’s about 65 buck out of pocket, about 15 with the normal health insurance. what would it be under the HSA with a High Deductable plan… I also have an option of a “Bridge Plan” that’s about 15 bucks a week and only covers office visits and x rays, etc, nothing “catastrophic” as they call it.

So what would be the best combination? I can choose between having a FSA or HSA, and having the Bridge Plan, or multiple levels on BCBS. The Bridge plan works with the FSA, and the HSA only works with the high deduct. plan under BCBS.

Thanks! :)

Would a High Deductible Health Plan & Health Savings Account (HSA) make sense if we are trying to have a baby?

health savings account
Evangeline asked:

I am on individual insurance that lacks maternity coverage. Our monthly premium is really expensive so we are considering switching to a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and using an HSA to pay medical bills. Maternity riders are really expensive so we are hoping that the money we save in the HSA will be enough to cover the maternity hospital bill. Anyone have any feedback on this?

Are HSA’s beneficial to everyone or do you think they mostly benefit high income individuals?
