Question about son’s hyphenated name?

Kristin Lammi asked:

I have a son with my ex-husband who is now 16 months old. My husband left when I was three months pregnant, so when my son was born, I gave him my maiden name, which is the name I would be returning to upon the finalization of divorce. Well, my ex obviously made a huge fuss about this, and instead of fighting it out forever in the courts, I just agreed to hyphenate his name so that it would be “my maiden name – ex’s last name” The name change did not take place until my son was almost a year old…I don’t want the name change, and always drop the last part of the name and only use my maiden name. My son’s health insurance, savings, UTMA, and all his doctor forms all have my last name only on them.
In a few weeks, my church is doing a benefit for my son, because he is having heart surgery in about 3 weeks. My ex got wind of this, as well as a copy of the benefit flyer, and had a huge fit that the name was wrong. I told him that I always drop the hyphenated part, and just use my name for everything, including all his medical stuff and bank stuff. I legally changed his name on his SS card, but haven’t bothered to change it on anything else, and it hasn’t been a problem thus far.

Now my ex is saying that he’s going to drag me into court because I’m not using his full name. For one, the church set up the benefit for me and used the name he was given at baptism, and there is no legal stipulations for this anyways, ITS A BENEFIT.

What were to happen if he complained to the courts? I did what the court order says and changed his name, I just don’t use it on any of the accounts that I control…and it has not been an issue at all.

FYI, I have sole physical custody and joint legal (Stupid MN laws), and my name has been changed back to my maiden name.

Do you think it is ok not to be able to afford healthcare for your pet?

asked:

I have noticed a ton of questions in the past two days about sick dogs. I know they are always here, but it seems lately there are a lot more. The excuse is always I can’t afford a vet.
I have gotten into several debates about this. People have accused me (and others with a similar opinion) of judging and sayin that dogs are for rich people.
The argument seems to be, my dog is better off living with me with no healthcare than in the shelter where I got him from.
While I agree that it is better to be rescued, my argument lies in, how much better will it be if the dog is suffering from something you cannot pay to treat?
My lab was really sick last week. The vet thought it could be pancreatitis or a partial blockage. Neither fatal, if treated. But if I could not afford the treatment he would certainly suffer and it could become fatal.
What happens if the dog comes down with a serious illness? Even euthanizing a dog that is suffering cost money.

It takes very little money set aside each week to end up with a decent vet savings account. Less, in fact, than what most pay for internet service per month. I know of many people on here that have limited income that still manage to provide their dog with health care.

In my opinion, it is not about money, it is about priority.

I pay $15 a month per dog for pet insurance. That is going to cover a good portion of my $600 vet bill from last week.

What are your thoughts?

Can my employer raise my deductible $3,000 overnight with no warning?

x_kookoo4kokopuffs_x asked:

OK, so it didn’t happen to me, it happened to a friend. He works for a company and his deductible was around $1,000. He has 3 kids, and his wife has a baby on the way (due within the next couple months). His company had a meeting and they informed everyone that they were switching insurance companies, and their new deductible was going up $3,000. Without any kind of warning, and even after he had met his deductible for the year.

He had met his deductible before his baby was born, and all the sudden, his deductible went up. No warning, no applying his previous $1,000 met deductible to the new, nothing. They mentioned POSSIBLY starting a health savings account, but it would only be $100/month, which still wouldn’t even cover half the of the new deductible.

Can they do this? Does he have any options? To me this sounds illegal.

The Far Right were screaming that we had to honor AIGs contract so why do they want to strip workers of theirs?

Fly In the Ointment asked:

Workers negotiated contracts and Republicans cry foul, and vilify Unions yet when AIG and Wall Street needed to be paid, they stepped up to bat for those CEO’s golden parachutes.

Wisconsin is a perfect example. They had a surplus till this Tea Bagger Governor decided to cut the taxes on the wealthiest and special interests and wants to implement failed ideas like health care savings accounts, which all experts tell us help the rich not those who can barely afford to pay as it is.

This Governor had tough choices but did he make the cowards decision to give breaks to the Rich and take it out of the workers? He gave all special interests tax breaks when he had a surplus. Is this the American way to go? Do voters out there who thought the Tea Party was about “getting back” America now know they meant getting it back for Corporations?

Haven’t we already had enough crap heaped on the middle class? Will these recent action by Tea Baggers hurt them at elections. Will these protests mark a turning point?
Workers are workers whether Public or private, they both have Rights.

Can you sue an attorney for malpractice?

Zik43 asked:

Check this out.

February or early March of this year I went to see an attorney about a divorce. He agreed to do the divorce for $300 and was paid a $150 deposit. He said our 90 waiting period will begin the next day.
90 days later we went in to sign our agreements. He then stated he would take the divorce before the judge tomorrow (this was sometime in May), and we would be divorced in a few weeks. He said Id receive papers in the mail at my moms which I never did, btw.
A month passed (its now June) and I didn’t hear anything so I called him. He stated there was nothing else to do but wait. I waited another month and called again and got the same response. Same thing again next month (Aug). In October I drove to his office and seen him walking outside. I asked whats taking so long and he said there was nothing else to do but wait.
The beginning of November I called the courthouse myself to see what was going on. Get this: My divorce was NEVER filed! He never filed!
I have a savings plan within my health care account, and had it costs me an extra about $300 a month to have her on my insurance. Had I been divorced when I was supposed to, Id of received about $1800 plus it will cost me about $1200 more if I am divorced in about 4 more months from now.
What makes matters even worse is my wife now says she refuses to sign. Now I am going to be married to her even longer with a fight on my hands because of this guy.

Can I sue this guy for malpractice? Advice?
BTW. This guy will not take or return my calls anymore. I tried numerous times. I even left him a message saying to please file and Id forget what he done. Or at least give me back my money. He did none of the above and still has not filed. I called today and checked.
He never gave me a retainer agreement. All he said was the deposit was fine. He never asked for another payment or penny. He told me to pay him what I can, when I can. I promise all details here are the truth.

Can I sue an attorney for malpractice?

Zik43 asked:

HELP. I am SO mad I don’t know where to begin. The beginning of the year I filed for divorce. I used my wife’s auto accident attorney, as he agreed to mediate between us both. He wrote up our agreement and said he would file tomorrow.
For MANY months now he would say its just a waiting game now. Wait for the judge to sign. Would be any day now. Just a month ago I seen him walking and he said the same thing. Nothing else to do or sign, just need to wait.
It seemed like a real long time so I called the courthouse yesterday. NO divorce was ever filed. I called the attorney and for two days now he will not return my calls.
When my divorce is final, my wife is off my health insurance. Therefore it is cheaper for me. I have a savings plan within my health care account, to which I should of gotten about $2,000-$3,000 by now if my divorce was final when it should of been months ago. Now I must file again, 90 day wait. etc etc. More money I will be out!

Do I have any actions I can take? What if my wife told him to delay the divorce as long as possible to get back with me, or to keep my insurance as long as possible. Can he do that and directly lie to me?

My wife swears she did not know about this, but Im not so sure. Any advice?

How to keep license from being suspended for unpaid tickets and failure to appear?

health saving account
asked:

I got a ticket for running a red light in a vehicle that had bad brakes which failed on me causing me to run a red light, this vehicle was not mine and I immediately pulled into the next parking lot after it happened, about a minute later a cop who was somewhere around pulled in and wrote me a ticket. Anyway, I forgot to show up in court as I had so much going on, and I really did have a lot going on. This year has been a never ending cluster **** and things are still pretty bad. I totally forgot about this ticket and it says I need to pay $1000 in the next 15 days or my license will be suspended. the letter said I can request a hearing within 15 days if I show up in court with my license. I am hesitant to show up in court at the risk my license if revoked. I know I should have paid my ticket and taken care of this earlier, but it was not a high priority and I had no money to pay it if i wanted too. About a month before this ticket I had my business account compromised which resulted in me losing $40,000 dollars, which left me with about $900 in my personal account. I am now forced to live with family as my business filed bankruptcy and I have yet to find new work. I am also forced to take care of another sick sibling in conjunction with my father. I am on county health care for bipolar disorder which was not a problem being self employed, but the recurring depression makes it hard to find a stable job right now. The money I manage to make freelancing in marketing, which is my area of business, isn’t enough to pay the bills i do have. I have no vehicle, but I do use family members vehicles until I can save enough to get back on my feet. I can’t afford to pay a $1000 dollar fine, and the only way I am able to make money is by meeting with clients by borrowing a car, so I can’t afford not to have a license. When I have the money I would be willing to pay the fine, but that just can’t happen right now. Is there any way to prevent my license from being suspended. Is there a form I can file or some kind of injunction I can file? Things are just starting to get better for me, but to lose another $1000 dollars or my license would be a huge set back. Please offer any advice you can. If it matters I am in California. Please save your judgmental comments, you have no idea how difficult the past year has been. Anyway, my time on the library computer is just about up, so thanks in advance to those who offer helpful advice.

Why is there no ethical standards in the life insurance industry?

health saving account
Jerzey4Ever asked:

Consider this situation: A young family with 2 dependent kids that has a $300k mortgage. The life insurance agent recommends a whole life policy of $100k for the husband, $30k for the wife, and even 2 smaller whole life policies of $50k on the little kids. The kids have more coverage than the wife! The agent says its a great savings program for your kid’s education. So this family have 4 whole life policies and they pay a total of $2500/year for it.

If you guys know how whole life insurance works, you would know its a total ripoff. But anyway, lets focus on the coverage. God forbids if either the husband or wife dies, how will that be enough to pay off the mortgage and protect their kids?

If I met this family, I would cover them all in one single 30 year term policy and give the parents the right amount of coverage for 1/3 of the price they pay currently. I would of ask if the parents really want coverage on their kids. If they do, I would just add a child rider that would of cost an extra $6/month and it would cover all their kids from 14 days old to age 25 years old. I would of told them about real college savings plans such as 529 plans, UGMA/UTMA, and Coverdell ESA. I would of told them about retirement plans such as Traditional IRA or Roth IRA or annuities.

By the way, I did do all the second part for this family and replace all their whole life policies. I saved them $1500/year and educated them about how to invest it in mutual funds and using some of the savings to pay off their debt. This is not the only family I helped. I have seen it over and over again where the breadwinners don’t have adequate coverage and yet they pay lots of premiums for it.

There should be laws on finding the suitability factors on which life insurance policy is right. It should take into account the total earn income, total debt, how much they spend, how much they save, do they have dependent kids and how old is the youngest child, and so on. A life insurance application doesn’t ask for any of this except for age, sex, health questions, and family medical history.

Cherie H asked:

Shes’ been taking my grandson to Washington when he’s at work whenever she feels like it, and then plays games about working things out! This is my son’s first child, they named after his dad! This last time she took the baby to a motel before filing a bogus restraining order. She finally started telling our son she had it all planned out & that she was leaving and taking his son. He tried to commit *******! She was decent enough to call 911 so he lived, but we don’t know what to do! His bank account is empty, he has been admitted to mental health. Don’t know if we can save the job, can’t pay his rent so his rental history is going to be ruined so no one else will rent to him when he gets back on his feet. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you
