I am about to start Baby Step 2.Here are my debts and interest rates: $2343 personal loan for carpet at 0%, $1590 personal loan for braces at 0%, and a student loan for $19500 at 1.625%. I have the cash that I can pay off the first loan, and the braces I use my flex health account at work to pay for pre-tax. However, with both of these at 0% should I just keep making the minimum payments and put the money in a high interest savings account? Or should I pay off the carpet now and the braces at the start of the new year when my flex account has money again and start paying double on the student loan? I think you will all tell me to pay them off and snowball, but I’m so scared and nervous!

Prescription drug benefits: Prior to this reform, Medicare paid for extended hospital stays for ulcer surgery, for example, at a cost of about $28,000 per patient. Yet Medicare would not pay for the drugs that eliminate the cause of most ulcers, drugs that cost about $500 a year. Now, drug coverage under Medicare will allow seniors to replace more expensive surgeries and hospitalizations with less expensive prescription medicine.
More health care choices: As President Bush stated, “…when seniors have the ability to make choices, health care plans within Medicare will have to compete for their business by offering higher quality service [at lower cost]. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. What’s good for members of Congress is also good for seniors.
New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means you’ll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford.

Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones. 8. someone one point to the Medicare section and the savings accounts, someone scream at the conservatives who cry about drugs and point out $28,000 for ulcer surgery vs $500 for medicine; Medical Savings Accounts as a way to have larger deductibles and more patient responsibility. THESE ARE CONSERVATIVE PROGRAMS!!
Newt was all over TV praising this program one week after they passed it but RUSH who is a headline reader has gotten it wrong and cost Bush 10 points in the polls.

Prescription drug benefits: Prior to this reform, Medicare paid for extended hospital stays for ulcer surgery, for example, at a cost of about $28,000 per patient. Yet Medicare would not pay for the drugs that eliminate the cause of most ulcers, drugs that cost about $500 a year. Now, drug coverage under Medicare will allow seniors to replace more expensive surgeries and hospitalizations with less expensive prescription medicine.
More health care choices: As President Bush stated, "…when seniors have the ability to make choices, health care plans within Medicare will have to compete for their business by offering higher quality service [at lower cost]. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. What's good for members of Congress is also good for seniors.
New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means you'll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford.
Homeland Security, Border Enforcement & Immigration

4. Before DHS was created, there were inspectors from three different agencies of the Federal Government and Border Patrol officers protecting our borders. Through DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now consolidates all border activities into a single agency to create "one face at the border." This not only better secures the borders of the United States, but it also eliminates many of the inefficiencies that occurred under the old system. With over 18,000 CBP inspectors and 11,000 Border Patrol agents, CBP has 29,000 uniformed officers on our borders.
5. The Border Patrol is continuing installation of monitoring devices along the borders to detect illegal activity.
6. Launched Operation Tarmac to investigate businesses and workers in the secure areas of domestic airports and ensure immigration law compliance. Since 9/11, DHS has audited 3,640 businesses, examined 259,037 employee records, arrested 1,030 unauthorized workers, and participated in the criminal indictment of 774 individuals.

Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones.

If $400 billion is taken out of the Medicare Trust Fund, those persons who were expecting Medicare to be there for them as a wealth asset in their post-65 years, are going to need to make some other plans.

With $400 billion gone, Medicare won’t be able to pay for very much. Maybe about as much as Medicaid does now. Really the cheapest possible care will be what’s on offer for you.

You may say, “Well that’s just great, I was always hoping to be given the cheapest possible care. The less care I get, the better I like it.”

Or you may say, “If Medicare is not going to be there for me, I better start making arrangements for something that will be there.”

What sort of arrangements might you make:

1. A Health Savings Account — and you start now putting in as much as possible every year.

2. Some sort of Excess Coverage for when Medicare cuts out. With all that money missing, Medicare is going to cut out at a fairly low level, so don’t figure on getting more than about $150,000 worth of care, no matter what goes wrong for you. You better be covered above that amount, just in case after 65 you get sick, and Medicare’s hands are tied, there’s noting more in your rationed care account.

3. Maybe Long-term care insurance. In case you need a nursing home at some point in your life. Other Americans have needed that in the past. You are made out of the same stuff as them. Medicare, once gutted, robbed, ***** and left for dead, might not be able to get you anything but the cheapest nursing home, in a cardboard box down by the river. If that’s not OK for you, maybe Long-Term Care Insurance could be considered.

4. You may want to cut back on all expenditures and build up a store of assets in Silver, Gold, Platinum, and a market basket of very hard currencies from the strongest economic countries in the world. If you can’t get reasonable insurance, you can self-insure by having assets stored safely.

5. You may decide that the Happy Go Lucky Life is the best one. You are so pleased that the President’s street rabble friends are going to be getting more freebies, on top of free housing, food, education, clothes, counselling, and fuel that you just want to jump for joy, and feel happy go lucky, and take your chances. But I know that if the insurance companies cannot bring the young people into their insurance pools along with the high risk people there will be a major increase in what they pay out. Now if the liberals are right and the profit margins of insurance companies are high enough, the insurance companies can handle those increase in costs but if their profit margins are low than the insurance companies will have no choice but to pass on the increase in costs in increases in rates. Personally I would like everyone to carry health insurance of some sort and I like the idea of health savings accounts that can be passed on the heirs if not used. But the money in them should be limited to medical and dental expenses only.

One child is 16 and the other 14. So this will be the last year I can get child tax credit for the oldest. I think it will benefit me since it would reduce my earned income below the 22k and the peak EIC is around 14k-18k I think.
I mean for next year. I would have to wait to sign up for HSA to begin next year and begin saving for braces for my youngest.
