How can I reduce my modified adjusted gross income in order to qualify for a Roth IRA?

health savings account
Josh K asked:

For 2009, I plan on making $140K. I’d like to contribute to a Roth IRA, but that requires a modified AGI < 105K (full contribution), or < 120K (limited contribution). I will fully invest in a 401k plan, which brings the modified AGI to 124K. I don't believe I would qualify for pre tax traditional IRA (I'm single). I think the 2009 health savings account contribution limit is 3K, and I'd prefer not contributing to a health saving account. Are there any other ways to reduce my modified AGI? I don't have any kids. Thanks

Are people who have consumer driven health (CDHP) plans happy with their health insurance?

health savings account
Rupa asked:

Definition of CDHP: a high-deductible health plan combined with a health savings (or reimbursement) account.

If you do have a CDHP:

Why do you have a CDHP? Did you have a choice to enroll in a more comprehensive plan? Do you think/know that you are saving money?

How to determine whether or not my mother needs a mental health evaluation?

health savings account
wet_jeanlouise asked:

My mother secretly moved out of my parents house, rented an apartment and took $10,000 from their joint savings account. This all in three short days and not talking to or telling anyone about her need to do so including her husband, my father. I say it that way because she always talks to me, her older sister, or her youngest sister. My mom is in her 50′s and my parents have been married for 38 years. My parents have been needing counsling for about 5 years now and they both have been lazy on taking care of their marriage. I need to know if anyone has gone through a seperation or divorce where one or the other may need to seek mental health counsuling due to irratic behavior.

The general mess Of Medicare?

health savings account
jonrhoward@sbcglobal.net asked:

I suggest that the failure is never revealed .The 2003 Medicare bill was crafted to profit the entire drug industry.Health savings accounts will greatly profit banks. The wealthy who have a great amount of wherewithal to participate in this scam have a tax write off. The vast majority suffer in there ignorance of our Price System. Change it Oh no I am getting mine. JHR

Parents: Which candidate’s health plan do you like best?

health savings account
fragglerockqueen asked:

Obama: Mandate that parents MUST provide health insurance for their children and that all employers of a certain # of employees MUST provide health insurance for their workers.

McCain: Encourage competition amongst health insurance companies. Give individuals an additional $2500 tax break and families an additional $5000 tax break that they can choose to use for health insurance. Encourage health savings accounts.

My opinion: At first I thought “Whoa! We could sure use an extra 5 grand.” But then I started thinking more about it and in the end choose Obama’s plan as better. Thinking about the long-run, what if my child ended up with cancer or something? $5000 wouldn’t even come close to covering the treatments he would need. Then he would end up on a social program (like Medicaid) that sent us to clinic doctors/ hospitals that would put us on the bottom of the list (with bottom of the list treatment) since their bills would be adjusted and they’d receive less for the same services/ treatment as another child whose parents had full-coverage insurance.

Anyway. It just got me to thinking and I started wondering where others stood on the issue.
I didn’t leave anything out “conveniently” or otherwise. I am strictly voicing what was stated on CNN this morning. The did not mention anything about McCain taxing employers and I can not find any information about it online. If you have a resource, please provide it. I’d like all the facts.
Also, a hospital CAN send your account to collections even if you are making a “good faith” payment of whatever you can afford. 1) I have had it happen to me. 2) I was a financial advisor who watched it happen to others.
Per CNN, McCain’s plan does not REQUIRE an individual to use the money to purchase health insurance. The HOPE is there that they will use it to do such.

McCains healthcare plan buts healcare back into the hand of the people. What do you think?

health savings account
Mr Krinkle asked:

Here it is:
John McCain Will Reform Health Care Making It Easier For Individuals And Families To Obtain Insurance. An important part of his plan is to use competition to improve the quality of health insurance with greater variety to match people’s needs, lower prices, and portability. Families should be able to purchase health insurance nationwide, across state lines.

John McCain Will Reform The Tax Code To Offer More Choices Beyond Employer-Based Health Insurance Coverage. While still having the option of employer-based coverage, every family will also have the option of receiving a direct refundable tax credit – effectively cash – of $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families to offset the cost of insurance. Families will be able to choose the insurance provider that suits them best and the money would be sent directly to the insurance provider. Those obtaining innovative insurance that costs less than the credit can deposit the remainder in expanded Health Savings Accounts.

John McCain Proposes Making Insurance More Portable. Americans need insurance that follows them from job to job. They want insurance that is still there if they retire early and does not change if they take a few years off to raise the kids.

John McCain Will Encourage And Expand The Benefits Of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) For Families. When families are informed about medical choices, they are more capable of making their own decisions and often decide against unnecessary options. Health Savings Accounts take an important step in the direction of putting families in charge of what they pay for.
Alana: thanks for your intellegent response you have been reported.
everybody:
I also believe we need the lawsuit problem adressed to bring down the cost of malpractice insurance.

Should an application to deposit (not borrow) money at First American Bank affect my credit score?

health savings account
StephenWeinstein asked:

Bank of America® Privacy Assist® (which I obtained free as part of the settlement of a class action suit; I would not have paid for it or accepted the “free” trial that they offer) is saying that
1) “You applied for credit 1 time(s) in the past 12 months, as recorded in this credit report…This lowers your score.” This is listed first under “the top factors that lower your score”.
2) The only “Inquiries” is
FIRST AMBK
Date: 08-2007
3) The “Creditor Information” on my credit report includes
FIRST AMERICAN BANK
Address: 639 N. FAIRBANKS COURT
CHICAGO, IL 60611 Telephone: (847) 952-3700

First American Bank is not a creditor of mine and I did not apply for credit from them.

I did apply for an Health Savings Account (HSA) at First American Bank in 8/07, but that is a deposit, not a loan.

Should this affect my credit score in this way?

Because I did not apply for credit from First American Bank, should I dispute the incorrect information?

We are looking @ switching or even getting rid of our private for we don’t use it and are paying $350.00 a month. Only thing im scared of getting rid of is the dental plan. Does anybody know of a good private dental plan that im not paying a arm and a leg for? Or would we be better off putting the $350.00 a month in a dental savings account for any future dentist visits?

Network timeout error one site only?

health savings account
paula 234 asked:

trying to access www.health–savings–accounts.com. I have 3 machines (1 with XP pro, 1 with XP home, and 1 with vista) each has Firefox and IE. FF keeps giving message “Page Load Error – Network Timeout….server is taking too long to respond” IE simply states “Internet Explorer can not display this page”. Other people outside of my household can access this site so it is not an error on that end and I was able to up until yesterday. Please help.
Seems to me they are blocking my IP, but don’t know why. Other people on the same ISP can get on. I can get on through by BlackBerry and even through Proxy sites on my computer. Just not directly. How do I request getting my IP “unblocked” by their server?

Is my medical insurance good?

health savings account
L 619 asked:

I used to have Pacific Care HMO from my employer. It was the usual. My payments were deducted from my weekly paychecks. And whenever I needed to go to the doctor, I would just make my appointment, show up, show my insurance card, and pay my $20 co-payment. The insurance would take care of the rest. Simple as that. Now we switched over to a new insurance called United Healthcare PPO. It has an HSA account which stands for Health savings account. They tell me that whenever my money is deducted from my paychecks for health insurance, it goes into my HSA account and that is my money that I have for health costs. They also gave me a debit card for that savings account to use to pay for medical expenses. So pretty much, if I get hurt within the first year of having this insurance, I’m screwed because I wouldn’t have enough to cover the costs. They tell me it’s really good but I don’t buy it. I think my employer went cheap on us. I don’t understand this system and I wish we stayed with the old one. Does anybody else have this insurance? Does anyone have any good information it. Any info would be helpful.
