Can anyone provide me with info about HSA’s (Health Savings Accounts) in layman’s terms?
My employer just informed me that we can open a HSA on a pretax basis. It’s brand new to them and Human Resources isn’t knowledable on it yet. I understand that I have to have a High Deductable Health Insurance Plan (our company provides that option and labels it as being meant for people opening a HSA).
If i contribute to a HSA how does it benefit me if I can’t use the money toward my deductable? I mean, if I go in for a normal office visit, it’s about 65 buck out of pocket, about 15 with the normal health insurance. what would it be under the HSA with a High Deductable plan… I also have an option of a “Bridge Plan” that’s about 15 bucks a week and only covers office visits and x rays, etc, nothing “catastrophic” as they call it.
So what would be the best combination? I can choose between having a FSA or HSA, and having the Bridge Plan, or multiple levels on BCBS. The Bridge plan works with the FSA, and the HSA only works with the high deduct. plan under BCBS.
Thanks!

I have a question about my hsa (health savings account) that I have with my job?
I’m contributing $500 to the account and my company is putting in $1200. Is all of that money available right away? I’m asking because I just found out I’m pregnant and after I went to my first dr appt I got a letter in the mail stating I have to pay them $2400 (my deductible I think) by the end of May. I of course dont have that and want to know if I can use my money in the hsa right away.
